Annual Report 2023 Entire Book - Flipbook - Page 110
Impact:
•
Schools reported that the most significant benefits have been an enhanced school library, students whose
families speak languages other than English and Irish feeling more included, and students with home
languages being able to access resources that support their learning.
Feedback from schools participating in the School Library Home Languages Funding Scheme:
‘The children love the novels in their
home languages... They read many of the Roald Dahl
books that were translated after Roald Dahl day in school
in September. Some children have asked me to buy them more
novels in their home languages to continue from books they have
read like Diary of a Wimpy kid in Russian, Harry Potter in Ukrainian and
we have 3 Portuguese speaking girls who would love more novels in Portuguese.’
‘There was major delight from the children when they received the books.
They were all very appreciative and felt very included.’
‘The children love to see their home languages on display in the library.'
‘Pride in being bilingual.’
‘Students are happy when they recognise their home languages
displayed on the shelf. Creates awareness among students of
other languages spoken.’
