Karen Ruddock, Alan McCormack, and Salvo Cacciato presented ‘Reviewing Languages Connect –
Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education’ to post-primary inspectors in June, as part of their
CPD. An interactive quiz, videos, and group discussion combined to focus on the spirit and the relevance
of the strategy in the work of the Inspectorate.

Dr Kenia Puig I Planella presented ‘Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language: Students, Teachers, and
Institutions’ at ELE in Eirinn Symposium in June 2023. This symposium gathered teachers at all levels of
education in Ireland to explore issues, approaches and methodologies for the teaching and learning of
Spanish.

The ‘Applied Languages 25’ event in the University of Limerick brought together current students,
alumni, academics, industry professionals and language enthusiasts. Karen Ruddock shared information
and challenges in relation to raising awareness of the value of languages for jobs and Ailbhe Guilford
(PPLI Project Assistant) participated in the ‘Applied Languages as a Stepping Stone to a Career’
roundtable.

Salvo Cacciato presented to pre-service teachers enrolled on the new B.Ed in MFL and Irish programme
in UCD on MFLs in primary schools.
•
PPLI Education Officers and Associates presented at Teacher Professional Network conferences such as
the Association Irlandaise des Professeurs de Langue Française (AIPLF), Associazione Insegnanti di
Italiano (ATI), Association of Teachers of Spanish (ATS), French Teachers’ Association (FTA), and Die
Gesellschaft der Deutschlehrenden Irlands (GDI) throughout the year on supports and resources
available to language teachers.
