Dalton Tatton, Assistant Secretary in the Department of Education, provided opening words.
This was an opportunity to focus teachers’ minds on the strategy context and to provide important updates
on progress. It was also an opportunity to encourage teachers and make them feel valued by acknowledging
the important work that they do in promoting the benefits of language learning, equipping future
generations with a mind-set that views cultural difference with curiosity rather than prejudice, and nurturing
global citizens who are multilingual with strong intercultural competence and can navigate diverse cultural
contexts.
