Munster Technical University
•
MTU selected student language ambassadors to increase awareness at second level of the benefits of
language learning, as well as to raise awareness of the range of language options at MTU. The student
language ambassadors attended open days and visited seven secondary schools between February and
March 2023.
South-East Technological University
•
SETU launched their PicLingo Primary School Foreign Language Sampler Module competition in May. The
competition aims to reinforce the concept of foreign language learning through art.

SETU “Try Events” was held in March. The aim was to bring TY, 5th, and 6th year students into the HEI to
experience what college life can offer. Students were given taster classes and returning Erasmus students
from France/Spain/Germany spoke about their experiences of studying a language at third level.
Technological University of Dublin
•
TUD held language events in January and May for TY, 5th, and 6th year students. Students had the
opportunity to experience ‘real-world’ practice of all foreign languages on offer in TU Dublin. They
practised their main language (Spanish, French and German) in the morning and tasted new languages
(Chinese, Italian and Spanish) in the afternoon. They were also given campus tours.

Student language ambassadors visited CBC Christian Brothers College in Monkstown, Patrician Secondary
School in Newbridge. They also promoted languages at TU Dublin’s Grangegorman Campus Open Day in
December.

Follow-up presentations, awarding of certificates and prizes for the language competition “YouTuber for a
day” took place in the schools in May.
Technological University of the Shannon
•
TUS ran a student poster competition linking languages to employment opportunities. Judging and
prizegiving took place in January.
•
A student language ambassador visited Ard Scoil Mhuire, Corbally.
•
In June, a staff member delivered three French and three German workshops to 5th and 6th class pupils at
Silvermines National School, Co. Tipperary.
•
A competition was launched in April to create a logo and slogan that combines languages and
international business. The competition was sent to over 100 schools in the catchment area, promoting
the importance of languages in the business world.
•
A TUS student created a vlog about their experience on Erasmus in the ESC Rennes in France from
September to December 2023.
Trinity College Dublin
•
TCD ran a Modern Languages Poster Competition to encourage creative thinking amongst TY students
around language learning. There was one overall prize, and one prize for each language category. An
official prizegiving reception was held in April for the winners, their teachers and parents.
University College Cork
•
UCC held four workshops on campus for TY students in April and May. Six schools took part in the
workshops. The theme was Mapping Spanish around the Globe.
