UCD ran an outreach programme to students from a number of post-primary schools from February to
May.
•
At the UCD Festival in June festivalgoers contributed a word that is special to them from their UCD
experience for the UCDictionary.
•
A video was made to celebrate International Mother Language Day in February.
•
A seminar took place in November covering the Japanese Space Industry aimed at UCD undergraduate
students where the options of studying Japanese as part of their degrees were highlighted.
University of Galway
•
University of Galway provided a French workshop to Garbally College, Ballinasloe in May
University of Limerick
•
University of Limerick hosted a Study and Careers with Languages event in January, aimed at 6th year
students and their parents, which focused on the value of studying foreign languages at third level, either
as part of a language course or as an elective.
•
UL ran a social media campaign to promote the Language Outreach Programme initiative, attract new
language learners, including students, and posted information about the courses on campus targeting
students. It ran from September 2022 until April 2023.

UL was involved in the Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival in April. The School of Modern Languages and
Applied Linguistics (MLAL) provided a series of online language tasters in six languages to promote
language learning to a new audience.

UL was involved in ‘Translation as a Career’, an online workshop for secondary-school students, in
February. It was organised jointly by the European Commission, the University of Limerick, and Dublin City
University. The event involved a series of talks by staff translators from the European Commission who
presented different aspects of their working lives and their experiences of living and working in a
multilingual environment. The participants were from 21 schools across Ireland.
