Activity:
In 2023, two evening events were held – one to celebrate Culture Night at Europe House on Friday 22
September, and an online event for European Day of Languages on Tuesday 26 September. On Culture Night
participants could pre-register or drop into Europe House on the Friday evening for language taster classes in
10 languages: Chinese, German, Irish Sign Language, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Maltese, Slovenian, Swedish
and Ukrainian. For the second time, the event was also part of a European Cultural Trail (organised in
conjunction with European Union National Institutes for Culture). Those who wanted to participate in this
event could get a stamp on their ‘passport’ at Europe House.
There were online classes in a further eight languages on offer on European Day of Languages. Participants
were able to sign up in advance and attend taster classes in French, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Polish,
Portuguese, Slovak and Spanish.
Impact:

Over 400 people availed of language taster classes over the two evenings
•
Attendees were asked to complete a survey and the average star rating for the two events was 4.7 out of 5
stars.
