Panel Discussion
‘Inspiring Language Teaching and Learning for the Future’
The panel discussion showcased the interesting and varied possibilities that arise as a result of positive input
from teachers in school. It was incorporated to encourage and inspire teachers in relation to the powerful
potential they have to inspire students to take up languages, to keep up their languages and to consider
doing a language when they leave school.
They shared the relevance of their languages competence in their careers and in the case of Sarah-Jane,
provision in her school; the inspiration for their language learning journeys and the influences and input of
their teachers; the value of language exchanges; ideas on how the summit participants could influence
students in their classrooms; and advice on how to provide for speakers of other home languages in school.
