4 Languages in Development
Overview:
The aim of this series is to develop an awareness of the importance of languages for the world of work, as
well as to learn skills in the target language related to the world of work.
Main Aims:
•
Develop an awareness of the importance of languages for the world of work
•
Promote the teaching of skills in the target language related to the working world
•
Provide opportunities for students to maintain and develop their language skills during Transition Year
Activity:
In 2022 the first resource of a new “World of Work” (WOW) series was launched. The first resource was
the “Great Language Apprentice Challenge”, aimed
at TY students who have studied French, German, Italian, or Spanish at Junior Cycle level.
Now the resource is also available in Chinese, Japanese, Lithuanian, Polish and Portuguese.
The resource includes:
•
Teachers’ notes
• Self-assessment and reflection documents
• Peer-assessment
The resources have been made available for teachers at teacher conferences and are available for download
on the PPLI website.
Next Steps:
•
Develop additional resources in this series entitled “My new life in…”, which will address the areas of
moving to a new country and applying for jobs, finding a house, and finding a school etc.
The resource will be available for all curricular languages.
