TY Beginners’ Modules
‘TY Beginners’ Modules’ in German, Spanish, and Italian were updated, and a new version was developed in
French. These modules are designed for students who are beginning to learn a new language in Transition
Year but can also be adapted for use with LCA or LCVP students. Each module has a selection of tasks for
students, and the teacher section at the front includes a topic overview, task description, and learning
outcomes.
Intercultural Look at our Schools
ILAOS provides a framework for schools wishing to address the intercultural dimension in the school. In 2023
a video showing the toolkit in action and how it has positively impacted and assisted schools was developed.
The video is available on the ILAOS and PPLI websites and has been used to promote the benefits of
implementing the toolkit in schools.
Communities of Practice (CoPs) were also held for schools implementing the ILAOS toolkit and the website
was promoted at various events to engage additional schools.
Impact:
•
Analytics on the ‘MFL Teachers Talk’ podcast showed a very positive return with almost 1,500 plays and
over 3,000 impressions on Spotify
•
Redeveloped resources brought a fresh and updated perspective to TY modules
•
Links to relevant content, and age- and stage-appropriate tools made them more engaging for TY
students
•
Supporting teachers who requested a French version of the existing modules, a new resource was
developed to teach the language to beginners. This allows teachers to introduce French to new students
in TY or LCA
Next steps
•
Continue to promote the podcasts at relevant times of the year e.g. ‘Hosting a Foreign Language Assistant’
to coincide with the opening of the FLA scheme for applications
•
The existing ‘TY Beginners’ Modules’ in Chinese, Korean, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, and Russian will be
reviewed and a new version in Romanian will be developed
•
Existing tutorials on the Digi Tech for Languages website will be updated and new ones developed to
reflect the current needs of language teachers
•
ILAOS will continue to be promoted, with PPLI Associates championing the benefits of being involved.
CoPs will continue to support schools engaged with the toolkit
