PPLI Associates
Action 1.C.11
16 PPLI Associates
Overview:
PPLI Associates, based in regions across Ireland, are second level language teachers dedicated to assisting
PPLI in implementing and executing key actions as outlined in the Languages Connect Strategy. Their role
involves building regional capacity and extending the reach of PPLI.
Main Aims:
•
PPLI Associates champion the work of PPLI and aim to be leaders in best practice by sharing their
knowledge and experience at Communities of Practice, and Teacher Professional Network conferences
•
PPLI Associates are engaged with the core PPLI team to give contextualised feedback from their language
classroom and advice on how to best connect with schools
Activity:
The Associates facilitate MFL Communities of Practice, train language assistants at a group and individual
level, act as mentors for Foreign Language Assistants (FLAs) and teachers of new languages and represent
PPLI at various language-related events such as Teacher Professional Network conferences.
In 2023, the Associate team continued to develop and evolve, with a notable focus on enhancing support for
the Foreign Language Assistant (FLA) scheme. New measures were implemented to strengthen the role of
Associates in relation to FLAs, including assigning each Associate a cohort of FLAs and designating them as
the primary point of contact for any teaching and learning-related issues.
