Additionally, some Associates piloted a mentoring model by visiting schools and offering guidance to
teachers of lesser-taught languages. These pilot visits served as a foundation for a larger-scale mentoring
model, scheduled for implementation with additional teachers during the 2023-2024 academic year.
As in previous years, Associates were provided with upskilling opportunities to further develop their
professional competencies. This included further training in mentoring, communicating, and Content and
Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). All Associates facilitated Communities of Practice in their regions and
delivered training for Foreign Language Assistants and Cooperating teachers.
Impact:
•
The work of PPLI Associates extends the reach of PPLI and builds connections with MFL teachers and FLAs
across the country.
•
The strengthened involvement of associates in the FLA scheme has significantly enhanced support for
language assistants and helped to rectify issues early before they escalate.
•
The piloted mentoring model has shown promise in providing valuable support to teachers of lessertaught languages, with plans for further expansion in the upcoming academic year.
