PPLI held a workshop on exchanges at the Languages Connect Summit in October. Teachers attended from a
variety of school types – some which are likely to find an exchange particularly challenging: single-sex
schools, DEIS schools, fee-charging schools, boarding schools, and Irish-medium schools.
Impact:
•
One of the Summit participants from a boys’ school came back for further advice and has since set up a
French exchange.
•
Students who were involved in an exchange experienced life abroad in another school education system
with a host family. They made new friends and have an exchange partner that they can talk to if they need
help with the language.
•
Hosting their partner student allowed students to demonstrate and be proud of their own culture and to
see parts of their own country that they may not have visited.
•
Exchanges present a unique opportunity to experience the subject and improve language skills.
