Overview:
Korean is well-received in the seven Dublin schools where it is
available as a TY module, delivered by a PPLI-employed
teacher. PPLI supports the Korean teacher through CPD,
training sessions and mentoring. In collaboration with the
Korean Embassy, PPLI endeavours to support the integration
and advancement of Korean language and cultural
education in both post-primary schools and broader
educational contexts.
Main Aims:
•
Facilitate access to a TY Korean module for post-primary
schools
•
Provide students with an opportunity to learn about
Korean language and culture both in the target language
environment and in their own environment
•
Raise awareness of Korean language and culture in the
school and local community
Activity:
In the year 2023, the Korean TY module was being offered in
seven schools, engaging a total of 447 students. Beyond
language instruction, the Korean teacher has expanded the
learning experience by conducting cultural workshops to
enhance the richness of the TY Korean module.
Since 2019, PPLI and the European Commission Representation
in Ireland have jointly organised events to celebrate Culture
Night and the European Day of Languages. As part of these
celebrations, free language taster classes have been offered to
the general public. Korean has featured prominently in recent
years, with classes facilitated by the PPLI Korean teacher
being very popular.
