Events and Celebrations:
In 2025, PPLI attended and contributed to a wide range of embassy and cultural-institute events,
strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and educational links. Activities included:
•
Attendance at celebrations hosted by the Portuguese, French, Brazilian, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and
Swiss embassies.
•
Participation in events including World Portuguese Language Day, Bastille Day, Brazil9s Independence Day,
the Korean Embassy9s stakeholder event, and the Japanese Emperor9s birthday celebration.
•
Engagement with Alliance Française events, further reinforcing cultural and linguistic partnerships.
•
Participation in the Irish Association of French-Language Teachers (AIPLF) Prize Ceremonies at the Swiss
Ambassador9s residence, supporting long-standing connections with language-education networks.
Collaboration and Meetings:
PPLI hosted individual meetings throughout 2025 with representatives from numerous embassies and cultural
institutes to explore new opportunities and build on existing cooperation.
Key engagements included:
•
Meetings with representatives from German, Italian, and Swiss embassies to support collaborative work.
•
A meeting with a delegation from the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) in China and
representatives from Ireland9s Confucius Institutes to discuss opportunities to further develop Chinese
language education.
•
September 2025: A meeting with the German Embassy to discuss ongoing collaboration, including German
support for the FLA scheme.
•
October 2025: A meeting with the Ambassador of Switzerland exploring shared priorities in language
education.
•
November 2025: A meeting with the Italian Ambassador, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Comites
President, and Association Teachers of Italian/Associazione Insegnanti di Italiano Co-Chair to discuss
strengthening Italian language provision and upskilling opportunities for teachers.
•
Ongoing collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, including support for the Japanese Exchange Teaching
Programme (JET). PPLI also delivered a presentation at the pre-departure orientation for outgoing JET
Programme participants.
•
Continued partnerships with cultural institutes to provide foreign-language upskilling opportunities for
primary teachers through funded service level agreements.
Awareness Raising:
•
PPLI collaborated with many of the embassies and cultural institutes on awareness-raising eforts, such as
Culture Night, to increase awareness of the languages of these embassies, and of the supports provided
by PPLI for these languages.
•
In 2025, four cultural institutes joined #ThinkLanguages Week as partners for the orst time, expanding the
programme9s partnership network. They hosted onsite events, ofered workshops, delivered guest talks,
and provided online learning resources, with more than 190 students attending in-person events.
