Children embraced the opportunity, submitting reviews across 20 languages, including: Arabic, Bosnian,
Bulgarian, Croatian, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Mandarin Chinese,
Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Parents were encouraged to
support reading at home in their family’s heritage language.
The winners of the Languages Connect category read books in Portuguese and Spanish.
Promotion of the competition took place across the Languages Connect and MS Ireland websites and social
media channels. Languages Connect merchandise was also included in MS Readathon registration packs,
helping to raise awareness of language learning and strengthening links with the Say Yes to Languages
module for primary pupils.
Impact:
•
The collaboration encouraged a much wider group of children nationwide to read in foreign languages
and increased awareness of the value of linguistic skills among pupils and parents.

The initiative supported children in maintaining or reconnecting with their heritage languages.
Next Steps:
•
Continue collaborating with MS Readathon in 2026 and maximise opportunities to promote languages to
the thousands of participants involved in this well-established national initiative.
•
Continue cross-promoting the MS Readathon competition among schools and pupils involved in the Say
Yes to Languages module.
