Overview:
PPLI works to increase the visibility of the English Language Assistant (ELA) Scheme as a means of developing
language and intercultural awareness in society, while also supporting potential future teaching capacity. In
2025, PPLI continued to promote the scheme and provide supports for outbound English Language
Assistants.
Main Aims:
•
Inform potential applicants about the personal and professional beneots of participating in the ELA
Scheme.
•
Support increased interest in the scheme through visibility and targeted initiatives.
Activity:
In 2025, with applications to the 2025-2026 ELA Scheme open until March, potential applicants beneoted
from a wide-ranging awareness-raising campaign. This included two newly developed videos, a promotional
poster displayed across university campuses, a social media campaign and an online support session held in
January 2025.
A total of 155 applications were received by the Department of Education and Youth from those seeking
placements in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. This represented an approximate 10%
increase in applications compared to 2024.
Impact:
•
The support session delivered by PPLI increased visibility of the ELA Scheme among potential applicants.
•
Applications to the 2025-2026 scheme increased by approximately 10% compared with the previous year,
coinciding with the coordinated programme of awareness-raising activities.
•
Positive feedback demonstrated that the session informed and motivated attendees to consider applying.

Provide an annual online support session to encourage interest and applications.
•
Continue monitoring uptake and developing strategies to increase visibility of the ELA Scheme.

Deliver an annual social media campaign to further promote awareness of the scheme.
