Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Communities of Practice

20 Sessions
Overview:
PPLI Communities of Practice (CoPs) bring together teachers with a shared interest in languages and
language teaching to exchange ideas, explore solutions and share classroom practice. CoPs are facilitated
regionally and thematically, and held both in person and online, depending on participants9 needs. These
sessions foster a culture of collaboration, mutual trust and professional dialogue, enabling teachers to discuss
challenges and develop creative and practical approaches to language teaching.
Main Aims:
•
Build and sustain vibrant regional and thematic communities of MFL teachers across Ireland.
•
Provide opportunities for MFL teachers to connect, collaborate and share good practice tailored to their
needs.
Activity:
In 2025, PPLI facilitated 20 Communities of Practice, with more than 600 teachers registered across these
sessions. The CoPs included a mix of project-specioc and thematic sessions, allowing participants to engage
with the topics most relevant to their needs. PPLI Associates played a key role in facilitating these sessions,
using their classroom experience to ensure the content was practical, relevant and grounded in real-world
practice.

support for Foreign Language Assistants (FLAs);
