PPLI coordinated Ireland9s application and participation in the ECML Training and Consultancy event
Plurilingual and Intercultural Education: Teacher and Learner Competences. The event brought international
expertise to Ireland at a time of signiocant curriculum development, particularly the introduction of foreign
languages in the redeveloped Primary Curriculum.
The training enabled participants to:
•
develop understanding of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for plurilingual and intercultural
learning;
•
explore the professional values and competencies needed to support this work in practice;
•
examine the relevance of these competencies in a variety of educational contexts;
•
engage with practical teaching materials and activities.
Stakeholders included representatives from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA),
Oide, the State Examinations Commission (SEC), An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus
Gaelscolaíochta (COGG) and Initial Teacher Education providers. The shared professional space strengthened
cross-agency dialogue and coherence across curriculum, assessment and professional learning.
