352 Pre-service Teachers Supported
Overview:
In 2025, PPLI continued its collaboration with Initial Teacher Education (ITE) providers to build capacity
among future primary and post-primary teachers. These partnerships aim to raise awareness of PPLI9s role
and ensure that pre-service teachers are equipped with methodologies, tools and strategies that support
efective language teaching.
Main aims:
•
Raise awareness of PPLI9s work among pre-service teachers.
•
Engage with ITE providers and collaborate on projects to build capacity in appropriate methodologies
and pedagogical skills.
•
Ensure that resources and supports for high-quality language teaching and continuing professional
development are readily accessible.
Activity:
PPLI engaged with several ITE providers in 2025, delivering guest lectures to introduce available supports
and contextualise innovative approaches in language pedagogy.
Pre-service primary teachers attended a plenary session covering PPLI supports, the Say Yes to Languages
module and opportunities for language upskilling.
Post-primary ITE students explored the foundations of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL),
including its principles and relevance for language teaching. They were also introduced to PPLI resources that
support innovative classroom practice. In addition, students participated in a session on plurilingual and
intercultural approaches with a particular focus on the Intercultural Look at Our Schools (ILAOS) toolkit as a
practical classroom support.
