to better understand the value and relevance of language learning. The strong student voice, creative
engagement and community-based approaches evident throughout this work are particularly encouraging
and support informed subject choice at key transition points.
I am also encouraged by the strong collaboration and partnerships evident across PPLI’s work—with schools,
higher education institutions, guidance counsellors, embassies, cultural institutes, national agencies and
international partners. This joined up approach strengthens coherence across the system and ensures that
language education is embedded within broader educational, cultural, social and economic priorities.
As Minister, I am committed to supporting an education system that is inclusive, forward-looking and responsive
to the needs of children and young people. The work of PPLI, as set out in this report, makes a valuable
contribution to that ambition. I would like to acknowledge the dedication of the PPLI team, its partners, and
the many teachers, students and communities who engage so positively with its programmes.
I look forward to continued collaboration with PPLI as we seek to further enhance language learning
opportunities for all our learners in the form of a follow-on strategy for foreign languages in education. A public
consultation on this will follow soon.
