PPLI aims to diversify and increase the uptake of languages learned through several initiatives, including the
deployment of peripatetic teachers and the provision of the recently introduced and lesser-taught languages
at post-primary level.
PPLI facilitates a variety of models of delivery, including blended learning and shared classes across schools,
and Leaving Certiocate online and in-person classes on Saturdays. PPLI is committed to providing support,
resources, and opportunities for both teachers and students to engage with and learn these languages.
Main Aims:
•
Support the coordinated development and oversight of language provision through the work of PPLI
Development Oocers, ensuring consistency, quality, and responsiveness to student and school needs.
•
Provide access to language learning at Junior Cycle, with a particular focus on early engagement,
continuity, and progression to Senior Cycle.
•
Ofer structured language learning opportunities in Transition Year that allow students to sample new
languages and develop interest in continued study.
•
Support students to access Leaving Certiocate language provision in school where this is not otherwise
available, with home and heritage languages.
•
Deliver targeted alternative provision models, including blended learning courses and Saturday face-toface and online classes, to provide equity of access and support student attainment.
