Languages Provision
Impact:
•
The number of schools participating has increased from eight in 2019 to 18 in 2025. More schools are
expected to join the scheme in the next academic year.
•
The number of languages in participating schools has increased from four (Japanese, Russian, Italian,
Polish) in 2019 to six (Japanese, Russian, Italian, Polish, Chinese, Lithuanian) in 2025.
•
The number of hours provided overall has increased from 63.55 hours per week in 2019 to 169.5 hours per
week in 2025. It should be noted that the reduction in hours between 2024 and 2025 is due to schools
absorbing and taking on more hours which has reduced the Additional Allocation hours although the
number of hours in the target language did not reduce.
•
A total of 72 classes in various year groups are included in the scheme.
•
A total of 2,200 students are currently beneoting from the scheme.
•
In 2025 one PPLI Polish teacher was employed by a school to teach in the additional allocation scheme.
Next Steps:
•
Promote the opportunities under Circular 0006/2020 and facilitate additional allocation for additional
schools in the next academic year.
•
Encourage schools to absorb more hours thereby decreasing the dependency on the scheme in the
school.
•
Continue targeted PPLI support for schools.
