Transition to the National Scheme
From September 2025, the new Foreign Language Upskilling Scheme for Primary Teachers was introduced,
marking the transition from pilot to national provision.
Key developments included:
•
Introduction of a grant-based funding model for consistent, transparent provider selection.
•
Expansion of the network of approved course providers under new Service Level Agreements.
•
Enhanced quality assurance processes, including observation, surveys and post-course review meetings.
During this phase, a further 114 teachers completed courses, bringing the total completions for 2025 to 310.
Collaboration with Providers
Foreign Language Upskilling in 2025 was delivered through collaboration with Higher Education Institutions,
Cultural Institutes, language schools, and international partners. Two calls for expressions of interest expanded
the approved provider network to 22, of which 16 delivered courses during the year. Courses continued to be
ofered in in-person, online and blended formats to maximise accessibility.
