Challenge for #ThinkLanguages Champion Team
#ThinkLanguages Week is a nationwide festival of languages and cultures.
The aims are to:
• Celebrate languages
together in schools,
universities and
organisations on a
national level
• Support teachers to create
space in the school calendar
to showcase languages
and what they ofer beyond
the classroom
Gaisce participants who take on roles as part of their school’s
#ThinkLanguages Champion Team can count the skills they
develop during event preparation toward their Bronze Level Award.
Over the course of 13 weeks, team members. whether acting as the
Champion Team Captain, Research Manager, Scheduling Manager,
Marketing and Social Media Manager, Activities Manager, or
Production Manager, will gain valuable experience and build a range
of personal skills such as:
• Leadership and teamwork – leading a group, motivating peers,
and working collaboratively to achieve a shared goal.
• Planning and organisation – managing schedules, coordinating
tasks, and ensuring all aspects of the event are prepared in
advance.
• Excite and engage TY
students about the
languages and cultures
around them within the
school, wider community
and around the world
• Communication and outreach – engaging with teachers,
students, and local organisations, and acting as a spokesperson
for the event.
• Promote inclusion and the
many personal, social,
professional, and cultural
beneûts of language
learning
• Event and resource management – organising rooms,
equipment, and materials, and ensuring activities run smoothly.
• Encourage TY students to
choose languages at senior
cycle and into third level
education
• Engage with the local
community to raise
awareness of the beneûts of
language skills
• Research and critical thinking – gathering and analysing
information about languages spoken locally and potential event
contributors.
• Marketing and promotion – creating engaging content and
campaigns to promote the event within the school and local
community.
• Problem-solving and adaptability – responding to challenges,
adjusting plans, and supporting others to keep the event on track.
• Creativity and presentation skills – designing visual displays,
social media content, and presentations to showcase languages
and activities.
