Community Involvement
Leading a Multicultural Club –
Celebrating Language & Culture at Our School
Get involved with your wider school community and volunteer to lead a Multicultural Club in your
school. The club will focus on celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity by providing a welcoming
space for students from diferent backgrounds to share and learn from one another.
Club volunteers will dedicate 1 hour per week over 13 weeks to planning, developing, and promoting
club activities.
Week 1:
Weeks 3–12: Weekly Cultural Workshops
Planning & Approval
Each week focuses on a diferent language and culture. A student
volunteer from that background will deliver a mini workshop.
• Meet with a supervising
teacher or school
management.
• Present the idea, propose a
weekly structure, and agree
on a suitable day, time, and
location for the
Multicultural Club.
Examples include:
• Teaching a traditional dance
• Bringing in a traditional dish to sample
• Sharing a children’s game or board game from their culture
• Play some traditional or popular music from the heritage country
• Teaching simple greetings or useful expressions
• Share items from the heritage culture like leaüets, tickets and
receipts. Check out our culture box resource for further ideas!
Week 2:
Promoting the Club
• Design posters and
promotional materials.
• Make intercom
announcements.
• Speak to year heads or class
tutors to invite students of
all linguistic and cultural
backgrounds
Volunteer Responsibilities:
• Support workshop leaders each week: organise the schedule, help
participants prepare, print resources, source materials.
• Coordinate with school staf/management if special equipment or
space is needed (e.g. speakers for sound, larger room for dancing).
• Run the weekly club sessions: welcome members, introduce
presenters, take attendance, help with music or setup.
• Take photographs (with permission) for use on school social
media, newsletters, or displays.
• Write a short article about the Multicultural Club’s impact for the
school magazine, website, or local newspaper.
• Promote the club continuously: through word of mouth, updated
posters, or lunchtime announcements.
