Do you speak a language other than English or Irish at home?
Whether you speak it at home, with relatives, or just hear it now and then — this challenge is for you.
Each week, you’ll take on a fun and creative task that brings your language and culture to life.
From music to food, family stories to personal reüections, it’s your chance to celebrate who you are and
where you or your family came from.
Ready to take on the challenge? Let’s go!
Week 1:
Watch a Movie in My Home Language
Choose a ûlm or series episode in a language (other than English or
Irish) that you speak at home, e.g. a childhood favourite, something on
Netüix / YouTube / DVD from your country of heritage. Watch with
family, with or without subtitles, and talk about it afterwards.
Reflection prompt:
What new phrases or cultural references stood out?
Write down 3–5 new words or expressions.
Week 2:
Cook a Dish Using a Recipe in My Language
Ask a family member for a traditional recipe in your chosen language or
ûnd one online and follow the instructions in your chosen language. Take a
photo of your ûnished dish or record a short video in your language.
Reflection prompt:
What did I learn about this food or any associated traditions?
Week 3:
Write a Letter or Email to a Family Member or Friend
Write to someone who speaks your language (even if you won’t send it).
Share news, ask questions, describe your week.
