* Although Russian is a curricular language it is included here because most of the students who sit Russian are
heritage language speakers. A small percentage have studied Russian as a foreign language in another jurisdiction
and an even smaller percentage of non-Russian speaking students take it ab initio in 5th year as a foreign language.
Dublin is the only county where all the relevant non-curricular languages and Arabic and Russian have more than
10 Leaving Certificate sits. Dublin is also the only county with more than 10 Leaving Certificate sits for Latvian;
Galway and Dublin are the only counties with more than 10 Leaving Certificate sits for Portuguese. Cork only features
in this data for Polish and Russian.
Polish has more than 10 Leaving Certificate sits in 19 counties: Dublin (144), Cork (100), Limerick (49), Galway (45),
Waterford (33), Tipperary (28), Kerry (26), Kildare (26), Clare (21), Carlow (20), Westmeath (19), Mayo (19),
Kilkenny (16), Laois (17), Wicklow (16), Meath (15), Louth (15), Offaly (13), Cavan (11) .
