The obvious difference post-2015 is that it takes two years to gain a postgraduate qualification which previously
took one year. Anecdotally the cost factor, both fees and the cost of living for two years, would seem to be having
a big impact on the decision making process for graduates choosing to go into teaching.
Maynooth University and Hibernia College were the only third level institutes to have declared any Japanese teachers
in the last five years, a single graduate each. DCU provide a general Modern Languages Special Methods module
which caters for all Modern Languages, so Japanese teachers that qualified through this course are not accounted
for.
