CLIL in Transition Year French - A Cross-Curricular Approach to Language Learning
How was the project successful?
The CLIL module has had a signiocant impact on student motivation and language development:
•
Over 100 students have participated since 2018.
•
Students report increased conodence in using French in unfamiliar contexts.
•
DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) exam success rates have remained consistently high at A1 and A2
levels. Many students who have completed the TY CLIL programme have also been successful at B1 level in 5th
year.
•
TY students engage more deeply with European topics and intercultural learning. Manor House School has been
a European Parliament Ambassador School since 2019, with the programme delivered as part of the CLIL module
through French.
•
The module has helped bridge the gap between Junior and Senior Cycle French.
•
Feedback from students and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive, with 91% of the 2025 TY cohort
expressing interest in continuing with CLIL-based learning.

The CLIL module is now embedded in the TY programme and continues to evolve and further enrich the crosscurricular experience.

In recognition of its commitment to bilingual education, Manor House School was awarded the
LabelFrancÉducation in 2024. The school is proud to be one of only two schools in Ireland to hold this quality
label, granted by the French government, which aorms the strength and sustainability of its CLIL programme.
•
Manor House School welcomes collaboration and is happy to share resources and insights with other schools
interested in developing CLIL in their own contexts.
