Recognising and Valuing Home Languages in Our School
Access to the curriculum
Teachers were asked to facilitate and encourage the use of home languages where it beneoted learning. This
includes encouraging students with the same home language to work together.
Several teachers use technology to enhance learning. Some teachers now use Power Point Live with live translation
in operation during lessons. Many teachers use Google Translate or Microsoft Translate to translate notes into home
languages.
Although the general use of phones is not prohibited in school, EAL students are permitted and encouraged to use
translation apps on their phones during lessons.
Teachers now translate house exams for English as an Additional Language (EAL) students.
